The brief for this assignment was to create two character turnarounds, two environments and one prop based on a poem, all within a genre and time period. My poem, from “The Book of Nonsense” by Edward Lear, was as follows:

There was a Young Lady of Clare,
Who was sadly pursued by a bear;
⁠When she found she was tired,
⁠She abruptly expired,
That unfortunate Lady of Clare.

The genre I choose was horror/thriller and the time period, the middle ages. I decided to interpret “the bear” as a man that had been nicknamed “the bear” due to his enormous size, hairiness and mean look. Building upon the poem, the bear is a blacksmith and the Lady of Clare got on his wrong side which resulted in him murdering her. The environments feature the blacksmith where the bear works and the woods that he chased the Lady of Clare into to murder. The prop is the murder weapon.
